Success Is An Identity Process
So what does this mean?
If you see yourself as a loser, you will not show up and perform like a winner.
If you say: “I’m always late.” Guess what? You won’t show up on time because you have created an identity that you are always late.
If you way to yourself: “I’ll never succeed” then chances are you won’t even try because your picture of yourself is of someone who is not successful so you won’t take the actions necessary to become successful. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
How you see and picture yourself, in other words, who you are being, will determine what you do and therefore, what you have.
This concept can be simply described as: Be, Do, Have.
Most people came from the reverse angle which is: Have, Do, Be. For example: “When I achieve …….., then I’ll be ………..” or “When I have ….., then I will do …….”
Something in life may ‘run you over’ so to speak but how you respond to being knocked down will be determined by how you see yourself. If you see yourself as a victim, your actions will reflect this and you may stay down but if you see yourself as a winner, you will get back up, dust yourself off and go at it again.
Achieving income goals within my business has always started with who I am being and believing that I am successful and therefore taking the actions that will bring about the result I am aiming to achieve.
The same can be said with my sprinting. If I see myself as someone who can achieve the goal I am striving for, then I go out onto the track as the winner that I see myself as. In my mind, I have already achieved the goal and now it’s just a matter of execution. It’s how I see myself that determines how I show up and therefore what I do and the result I achieve.
This concept is the reason why it is vital to be mindful of what your belief systems are because your actions will always be consistent with ‘how you see and what you believe’ about yourself.
